I'm not sure what photos you are looking at, but I went to a web site called campsite photos...and, well ...they are photos...and are pretty accurate. If you are tent camping be sure to bring a rake or some way to clear the pebbles...or better yet, bring a camping cot/sleeping pad. It is a very clean park and the RV sites are quite nice. I went with the family camping group last December and it was toasty in the day and chilly at night. Have FUN ;-)

In the park, roads are paved. Driving past the park there are side roads and hiking trails that are not paved. The Apache Trail continues on to canyon lake, apache lake and to Roosevelt lake too. The pavement ends along the way, but the road is not bad for vehicles under 30 ft. Lovely drive. Wonderful area.
