Why isn't there a lift installed at the southern harbour bridge pylon? I heard there was suggestion of a lift being installed. Is this true? If not is there any suggestion of a lift being installed.
Hi! I am planning to go here with my 71 year old mother. She can generally manage long walks and climbing stairs but I worry that 200 steps might be too much for her knees. Do the steps have wide gaps or small gaps? Would you think she would find the climb somehow a little easy if she goes slow? Are there seats/benches at the top to be able to rest? Thank you for the responses!

You need to factor in also the steps needed to get to the base of the pylon. If you are coming from the south end, there is a series of steps from Cumberland Street in The Rocks. Look for the square concrete building "BRIDGE STAIRS". There are benches placed at each level of steps there as well. the view from the top of those stairs is very good too, just before you get onto the bridge proper.
