Gettysburg is a small town and there is no taxi service. You would need to rent a car. But that being said, for a stay of more than a day and wanting to see a few other area places that would be a good choice. Staying in town at a hotel puts you out of walking distance of the VIsitor's Center (and the Cyclorama exhibit) and several really cool wineries (Adams County - country charm & Hauser's -modern feel and magical vistas). Check with hotel concierge about transport avail. as they may have groups/vans going.
