Crews worked in below-freezing temperatures Wednesday night and through much of Thursday to repair a water main break in Decatur, according to the DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management.

People in a Dekalb County neighborhood have water again after a water main break Sunday morning. Water erupted on Sherbrooke Drive off of Shallowford Road around 7 a.m.. “I walked out to the end of the driveway and looked up the street and just saw this geyser,” said Billie Sherrod, who called in the break. “It was at least 20 or more feet high.”

A water main break that impacted thousands of DeKalb County residents for days was repaired Thursday afternoon, officials said.

Residents who live in the Tuxedo Trace housing community had to go without running water Wednesday because of a major water main break.

The mayor said the 24-inch main break is in the 1700 block of 22nd Street Ensley. Birmingham Water Works is on the scene and assessing the situation to make repairs.
