Magic: The Gathering has revealed a look at its forthcoming Final Fantasy -themed set. In an interview with IGN, senior game designer Daniel Holt talked about the collaboration and this initial look, which focuses on four major character cards and their associated pre-constructed Commander decks.

For fans of Magic gameplay, this Standard-legal set features some interesting new mechanics as well. First up are Saga Creatures, a first of its kind implementation of the Saga mechanic first introduced in 2018 with Dominaria. These multi-phase cards represent creatures that evolve over time, adding new abilities as they increase in power.

Cloud, Terra, and a handful of other Final Fantasy heroes are going to be available in Magic: The Gathering Arena.

The Achievements system in MTG Arena is made up of two parts: a series of goals for players to work towards and rewards tracks along which fans will progress as they complete those goals. Goals range from things like playing a certain number of games to performing specific game actions,

The Gathering x Final Fantasy set references old Final Fantasy mistranslations. The classic Final Fantasy games often had errors in their text that became memes. Garland's iconic mistranslated line from FF1 appears in Magic: The Gathering as an homage.
