A beloved female fennec fox died at the Phoenix Zoo last week, leaving guests, staff and animal companions with a "heavy heart," according to a Facebook post by zoo officials on Wednesday.

The zoo announced Noelle the female fennec fox died a week ago at the age of 12. She was six months old when she arrived at the zoo in 2012. Zoo officials have not yet said how she died.
