Mega­lony­chids have 5/4-5 cheek teeth. In­cisors and ca­nines are ab­sent, but the an­te­rior cheek teeth are en­larged, tri­an­gu­lar in cross sec­tion, and ca­nine-like. They are sep­a­rated from the rest of the cheek teeth by a di­astema.
