Arthroconidium - Wikipedia
Arthroconidia are a type of fungal spore typically produced by segmentation of pre-existing fungal hyphae. These spores are asexual and are generally not as durable and environmentally persistent as, for instance, bacterial endospores or chlamydospores.
In the environment, Coccidioides grows as a mycelium (mold) and is propagated by arthroconidia. Mycelial growth is optimal when moisture levels and organic matter are high.
In the environment, Coccidioides ssp. exists as a mold (1) with septate hyphae. The hyphae fragment into arthroconidia (2), which measure only 2-4 μm in diameter and are easily aerosolized when disturbed (3). Arthroconidia are inhaled by a susceptible host (4) and settle into the lungs.
Coccidioides arthroconidia are infectious for humans and animals, which are accidental hosts. In the vast majority of cases, people or animals are infected by inhalation. Aerosolization of arthroconidia increases when contaminated soil is disturbed by humans (as in …
Coccidioidomycosis - Doctor Fungus
Coccidioidomycosis is acquired from inhalation of the spores (arthroconidia). Once in the lungs, the arthroconidia transform into spherical cells called “spherules”. An acute respiratory infection occurs 7 to 21 days after exposure and typically resolves rapidly.
Coccidioidomycosis and Valley Fever - Medscape
2022年12月16日 · The arthroconidia are the infectious particles of coccidioidomycosis. Arthroconidia become airborne and infect the human host to begin the parasitic phase of its life cycle. The...
Filamentous Fungi - Microbiology Spectrum
Formation of arthroconidia, or boxcar-like compartments with thick cell walls, is a characteristic feature of the mycelial form of this fungus. These arthroconidia are highly infectious, with an infectious dose in the range of one to ten arthroconidia ( 26 ).

Classification and severity of Tinea capitis depends on how fungus invades the hair shaft and the formation of their arthroconidia.6 There are three recognised patterns: Endothrix where the hair shaft is filled with fungal branches (hyphae) and spores (arthroconidia) clinically termed black dot.
Coccidioidomycosis: Epidemiology, Fungal Pathogenesis, and …
2019年6月14日 · Coccidioidal arthroconidia that are aerosolized through environmental or anthropogenic means initiate infection after inhalation by a host. Once in the host respiratory system, arthroconidia undergo the thermally induced switch to the pathogenic-“parasitic” phase of the fungus’ life cycle.

2015年5月14日 · In the saprobic phase, Coccidioides cycles between mycelial and arthroconidial stages. Arthroconidia are abscised and become airborne by soil disturbance. Inhalation of arthroconidia by a potential host can lead to coccidioidomycosis, commonly known as (San Joaquin) Valley fever.
