2015年8月5日 · The person we got a Beltex tup from last year lambs around 50 and had no C sections this year. Using a Beltex as a crossing tup on to commercial ewes is completely different. The lambs are small easy born but vigorous at birth. We lambed around 60 half texel hoggs to the Beltex this year with minimal assistance.

2013年12月7日 · As with all pedigree sheep it is a learning curve moving into a new breed (or as neilo puts it -not for the fainthearted). We have 4 breeds of sheep here and all need managed differently. The Beltex shouldn't be fed too much and need a long time to "open up" when lambing -also single lambs coming backwards need to be c sectioned.

2018年11月5日 · Got first Beltex tup in 2014 and used him exclusively on texelxmule hoggs. Very easy lambing. Got another one 2015 and used him on Lleyn shearlings, again very easy lambing and lambs worth a premium. Have since moved on to all Beltex tups (although there will be some Dutch in 2 of them) and started keeping and buying Beltex hoggs and shearlings.

2018年11月5日 · Suffer this problem here too. Although not just in sheep. Get issues with young calves, usually showing initial symptoms of pneumonia but the sound coming from the throat instead of the lungs. Course of treatment for calves and sheep is dexadreson and micotil with a second dose after 48 hours.

2022年8月21日 · There is a hell of a mixture in there- majority would be either texel, Cheviot or Romney based but the kids have their own sheep too so there’s zwartbles for one daughter, Derbyshire gritstones for another and my son has some bluebells. Trying to get it mostly all homebred over the next few years. Yours look good

2019年10月10日 · My sheep are pedigree Charollais, a few Beltex, and a commercial flock of Highlanders (NZ Texel x Romney), and crosses from them by NZ Texel, Charollais and Lleyn. All would verging on the good side as regards copper absorption, yet we still need to give copper. Many in the area are running Texel X ewes and supplementing copper one way or another.
