2012年8月7日 · The A/C guy verified that it is terribly insulated in my attic. I have a radiant barrier, (whatever that is), but there is not sufficient insulation to prevent the heat transfer to the rest of my house.

The plan was to use batt insulation on the attic floor but I'm not sure how much it will do given the deep, uninsulated rafter channels leading to the soffit vent. 2022年1月22日 · Now if you are wanting to have your attic become a conditioned space, or better yet "tempered" since there may be no ductwork servicing the space, the cheapest way is to place kraft faced fiberglass batts in the stud bays and roof rafters. The best way to insulate the attic is using a 1/2 pound spray in foam.

2013年4月1日 · Insulating attic -- usually attic floor unless you have reason to want the attic to be conditioned space -- is a good second step. Blown-in is cheap but getting a thick enough layer to meet current standards conflicts with using the attic as storage; my blown-in layer is piled up at least a foot above the tops of the rafters.

2015年10月13日 · I have a small walk (crouch)-in attic from the closet of one of my upstairs bedrooms. It has insulation on the walls that form the bedroom closet/wall. Given how small the attic is, whenever I go in there and place/remove things I tend to brush up against the insulation pulling it out from between the studs (see pictures below).

I have a 100-year-old, partially-finished attic that I plan to gut and re-finish in the coming years into proper living space. I've gone back and forth on strategies to insulate this space both to code and for longevity. My current plan is as follows.

The drawback is that, according to Home Depot, the cost of 2x4 wall insulation is comparable to the thicker, R-38 attic insulation, so I will effectively be doubling my material costs by getting both types of insulation (approximately 700.00 for each layer on my 900 sq. ft. house).

Is it common to only insulate the part of a wall that borders outside and not the rest? Are there any DIY techniques to insulate the walls further that are relatively cheap and easy?

2018年3月6日 · How big is the attic? One solution is to take 2, 3 or 4" insulation board (R13 to R25) and affix it to the rafters. This would basically make your attic conditioned space (and thus the air between the foamboard and your ceiling will also add R-value) while also protecting your ventilation pathways.
