Old Stone Foundation Repair - DIY Home Improvement Forum
2011年4月19日 · I'm looking for some advice on how to best repair the old stone foundation of my house. The place was built in 1870 and the mortar between the stones has turned to dust in places. A previous owner tried to "repair' this problem using insulating spray foam for some reason :furious:, though I kinda doubt that's helping to support the house...
Pea Gravel Around Foundation - DIY Home Improvement Forum
2023年12月1日 · I recently added pea gravel around the foundation of my house. When I read online I'm getting different views on that. Good/Bad. I'm trying to reduce the amount of moisture around the exterior of the house. Does anyone know if this is a good or bad thing to do. I'm a total novice at knowing anything about foundation on older homes.
Old Stone Foundation Repair - Sister Wall? Lime?
2011年8月21日 · There are several options to stabilize, strengthen, and in some cases even straight up bowing basement walls, including wall braces, wall anchors, helical anchors and fiber reinforcement systems. Likewise, there are other ways to improve foundation drainage that do not involve digging out the basement.
River rock for concrete base??? - DIY Home Improvement Forum
2011年9月11日 · River rock is fine, since it drains well, and the rock itself will not settle once it is minimally compacted. If you are concerned about strength, you can ask the contractor to fill the voids in the river rock with coarse sand, and then compact the sand/rock mix. Very strong. I would be much more concerned with what is under the river rock.
Give it to me straight. How bad is my stone foundation?
2018年3月9日 · I dug down outside the foundation a couple of times and hit HUGE boulders. That foundation hasn't moved in over 100 years, and it's not going anywhere for the next 100. The one new point I want to make is that even if you totally wrapped the foundation walls with some sort of waterproofing, you might still have water coming up from below.
Gravel against foundation to stop water - DIY Home Improvement …
2011年11月9日 · The next project for the house is to dig up the dirt along the rest of the foundation wall (they only did one small section) and put more gravel in it. No, this is not a french drain, with a pipe in the base of it. It's just gravel back fill against the foundation wall. I'm not saying this was a "good" or "bad" course of action to have taken.
What mortar for tuckpointing old sandstone foundation
2014年5月26日 · The house has a 100+ year old sandstone foundation. At some point it was covered with some type of mortar and 1 to 2 coats of point. That covering is now falling off or can easily be chipped off in many places. Behind it, the "joints" between the sandstone are just large gaps, holes, and caves filled with sand.
Laying Tarp around foundation - DIY Home Improvement Forum
2016年5月30日 · Agree - the tarp idea won't be very effective. 'Cinder' block is porous and will wick water from the surrounding soil. You really need to waterproof from the outside. I will also guess that there is no drainage or weeping tile around the exterior base of the foundation.

sister wall against old stone foundation - bonding agent?
2012年3月16日 · I have a 200+ year old New England farmhouse with a dirt floor basement and an old stone foundation. I want to build a sister wall on portions of the inside foundation walls where it is beginning to bow in, crack, etc.. The sister walls will be reinforced with rebar, but how to tie them into the existing stone foundation??
