I first watched The Godfather films on vhs as a young kid with my parents having us cover our eyes when something adult happened. But 3 things made me love TGF Trilogy: I watched The Godfather Epic my cousin had and made me understand and appreciate the overarching story.

Yes it does. There is a 424 minute Epic and then there is the made for TV edit called the Godfather Saga that is 386 minutes. If you simply combined GF 1 & 2 the run time would be 377 minutes, so both cuts have additional footage compared to the theatrical cuts.
