The secrets are a lot less obscure and are more fun to find, since there is almost always a hint to follow that is on-screen. I was able to focus a lot more on platforming in my playthrough.

I played Returns AFTER TF because I just wanted more donkey kong. Returns is the harder of the 2 I feel. 1 hit death on all minecart levels (unless you are playing the 3DS version and enabled easy mode), absolutely ridonculous 8th world levels. Even after my twitch skills were honed in TF I had a more difficult time in Returns.

Have you played Donkey Kong Country 2? That game is harrowing. It has without opposition the most brutal, cheap difficulty I've ever seen in a game. I literally could not beat it on my SNES Classic without later using NSO's rewind feature. DKC2 is a fucking warzone.
