Aedes albopictus (synonym Stegomyia albopicta), from the mosquito (Culicidae) family, also known as the (Asian) tiger mosquito or forest mosquito, is a mosquito native to the tropical and subtropical areas of Southeast Asia.

Aedes albopictus is a competent vector of many viruses including dengue fever (CDC 2001) and Eastern equine encephalitis virus (Mitchell et al. 1992). Its life cycle is closely associated with human habitat, and it breeds in containers with standing water, often tires or other containers.

It is now listed as one of the top 100 invasive species by the Invasive Species Specialist Group [2]. The success of the invasion of Ae. albopictus is due to a number of factors including: its ecological plasticity, strong competitive aptitude, globalization i.e. increase of trade and travel, lack of surveillance, and lack of efficient control [1].

These mosquitoes are named Aedes aegypti (yellow fever mosquito) and Aedes albopictus (Asian tiger mosquito). Both species are small, black mosquitoes with white stripes on their back and legs.

2023年9月11日 · Aedes albopictus is most well known for transmitting dengue and chikungunya viruses but it has also been found infected in nature with the following viruses: West Nile, Eastern equine encephalitis, Japanese encephalitis. It can also transmit dog heartworm parasites.
