The ornament is based on Eleanor Velasco Thornton, actress, and secretary and mistress to Baron Montagu of Beaulieu. The Baron commissioned a hood ornament for his Rolls-Royce from an English sculptor named Charles Robinson Sykes. Sykes modeled the ornament after Thornton and called it The Whisperer.

Hood ornament or no hood ornament: which looks better?
W204 with hood ornament is seen as a "grandpa car" here. I think it looks way more modern without. Also the grill star is associated with the higher trim levels (Avantgarde & AMG) while the hood ornament is only on lower trims (Classic and Elegance). The car in the first picture is Elegance trim level.

2022年8月17日 · Someone broke ornament off my wife's 190E. Was surprised how inexpensive they were at local dealer (Bellevue, WA). They had box of 'em behind counter at the receptionist. Replacing it requires no tools at all. Lift the hood, pull spring lever down, discard old stub, replace with new ornament. Nice.
