Bijar (Persian: بیجار) [a] is a city in the Central District of Bijar County, Kurdistan province, Iran, serving as capital of both the county and the district. [5] The city was mentioned in the 15th century as a village belonging to Shah Ismail, the first ruler of the Safavid dynasty; Bijar became a town during the 19th century.
