During the 1973–74 English football season, Brighton and Hove Albion competed in the Division Three, the FA Cup and the League Cup. In his second season as chairman Mike Bamber clinched the arrival of manager Brian Clough and his assistant Peter Taylor to the team on 1 November. [1] .

The largest crowd at the Goldstone was on the 27th of December 1958 when second-placed Fulham were beaten 3-0 before a crowd of 36,747. Brighton were now playing in the top flight, and to seat the ever increasing support, a temporary West Stand extension was erected in 1978 and provided 980 seats.

And so, seven days after they lost at The Kursaal, Brighton again took on the Shrimpers on Saturday 4 th September 1920, this time winning 1-0 at the Goldstone Ground for their victory as a Football League club.

As long ago as 1909, there were plans to leave the Goldstone Ground. Brighton remained in Division 3 (South) from 1920 until the outbreak of War, without figuring in the promotion chase (only one team was promoted) until 1936-37 and 1938-39 when they finished third.

The Goldstone Ground was Brighton and Hove Albion's home for 92 years before it was sold to developers as Bill Archer asset stripped and attempted to kill the club. These photos pay tribute to our former ground which will never be forgotten.

2016年1月12日 · Brighton & Hove Albion played its first match on the Goldstone Ground on 22 September 1902 and it must have been an inspiring game for fans because Albion scored no less than seven goals against Southampton Wanderers.

The record attendance at the Goldstone Ground came on 27 th December 1958 in a 3-0 Division Two win over Fulham. 36,747 spectators were in attendance just one day after the reverse fixture at Craven Cottage, which Fulham won 3-1.
