In this paper, corrosion fatigue failure of high-strength steel wire was studied based on the actual cable or sling in the bridge, and the service life prediction formula considering the corrosion effect was put forward, which provides a force basis for future research.

The corrosion forms of steel bridges are classified according to their destructive form and include uniform corrosion, pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion (Xu et al., 2008). According to the type of bridge, the corrosion of steel bridges can be divided into two types: surface and cable corrosion.

On August 15, 2018, Italy’s Ponte Morandi bridge collapsed (as shown in Figure 1(e)), and it was reported that the steel cable on one end of the column was the first to break at the junction of the steel cable and the bridge [].At 9 : 30 a.m. on October 1, 2019, as shown in Figure 1(f), the South Australia sea crossing bridge in Taiwan Province collapsed [], owing to a steel cable fracture.

In bridge design, the influence of environmental corrosion must be considered in calculating sling fatigue. The effect of corrosion on fatigue is much greater at low stress amplitude than at high-stress amplitude.
