Feb 7, 2008 · Brim width on the underside from the outer edge to the bead (or edge of sweat, lacking a bead). Some measure topside to edge of crown. For open crown, with hat of flat surface, I measure along the side of the hat from base of crown to top, usually eyeballing it along the ruler. For a bashed hat I measure height at front of crown and side of crown.

Mar 20, 2009 · The easiest way to resize a hat is to get some hat sizing foam to put under the sweatband. This method usually works for size differences 1/4" or less. If you need to take the hat down a full size or more, you may want to try something else. Here is an example of sizing foam and here is a nice product that I like to use: the CAP-BAN-NU.

Mar 19, 2006 · Thanks, Brad, I may just do that. I went back to the hat just now and, as I'm a perfectionist, I realize it's not nearly as "bad" as I thought it was. But I also realize what my thinking is: it strikes me that when you snap a fedora brim down in front (up in back), the spot where it turns from up-facing to down-facing should be flat.

May 8, 2007 · If the hat is an ebay purchase and is vintage, there is a chance it is not the size marked - it may have shrunk already over the years. I have a Christy's fedora that has shrunk 2+ sizes since I got it 22 years ago.

Mar 15, 2011 · Being an owner of a Stetson Pinnacle 100% beaver hat, and having owned hats from both TonyB and Art, I can definitely second the advice already given. Call the Stetson/Resistol outlets in Texas and Missouri, and if they don't have a Benchley, don't waste your money on a full-priced one.

Oct 29, 2013 · Glad you like you hat! Borsalino maintained quality longer than most makes. If your interested, I was able to remove the “Borsalino” branding in the bow keeper with just a Q-Tip and rubbing alcohol.

Jan 9, 2008 · Beat me to it. I was going to say that a rubberized fabric or oil cloth would probably be the best material for rain...but it would look like hell as a fedora. I know there are several waterproof'ers on the market (Scotchguard and the like, and there was one mentioned in a hat post just in the last two or three months).
