The Story of the National D-Day Memorial. With the advocacy and guidance of D-Day veteran and Memorial founder, John Robert "Bob" Slaughter, along with other veterans, the Memorial and Bedford, VA has welcomed tens of thousands of visitors each year.

The site map includes information on the architecture and the historical narrative of the Memorial. Guests may also download the Memorial’s free app for Apple and Android to access features to enhance their visits including an interactive map, brick finder, and memorial wall name finder.

The National D-Day Memorial Foundation’s mission is to preserve the lessons and legacy of D-Day. The Foundation maintains and operates the National D-Day Memorial in direct support of that educational mission.

Created by the late Hershel “Woody” Williams, the longest-surviving Medal of Honor recipient from WWII, Williams personally chose the National D-Day Memorial as the site of the first such monument in Virginia.
