The WWE Divas Championship was a women's professional wrestling world championship in WWE. The championship was created by WWE in 2008, and was introduced as part of the WWE brand extension via a storyline by then SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero as an alternative to Raw's WWE Women's Championship. Eve Torres and AJ Lee held the record for most reigns as Divas Champion with three. AJ Lee also had the longest combined reign as Divas Champion at 406 days. Nikki Bella had the longest individual title reign at 301 days, while Jillian Hall had the shortest reign at 5 minutes. Days recog.

Michelle McCool was the first WWE Diva to claim the Divas Championship in July 2008 at The Great American Bash. Since then, several Divas won the coveted butterfly, including Maryse and Melina, who each held it twice.

Maryse defeated Gail Kim in a tournament final to win the vacant title. This was contested in a Fatal 4-Way match that also involved Gail Kim and Maryse. The WWE Women's Championship was also on the line, meaning the winner would unify the two championships.
