If so, have another go to remove any imperfections and add primer to that area 24 hours later. Primer MUST harden for 24 hours to avoid shrinkage.

Though I'm in the US, and therefore never used Halfords paint or primer, I use Rustoleum primers all the time; all these primers are made to be possibly used on a real car, and most cars are painted with a lacquer that is chemically hotter than Tamiya sprays.

White paint, whether it's primer or color coat, does not cover particularly well. The Tamiya Surface Primer is better than color coat, but it still takes a helluva lot to get good coverage.
