2021年9月29日 · If I move the choke outside the 'hoop' section of the Gap Titan, 80 meters gets noisier and 40 meters goes back to its resonance point. The choke at either location IS reducing RF in the shack; and appears to be doing a better job at the base of the antenna. I'm going to do more testing this evening, to see what it's doing to 80 meter reception.

Careful on using wire for the transformer / choke : Wire (non coaxial cable) winds can have different characteristic impedances and cause an impedance bump and stray inductance.

I found that intriguing and also the least expensive of things to try. 2021年2月24日 · RF Choke, transformer or balun will have a calculated bandwidth. The simple loop RF Choke was standard for 28-14 mHz antenna. Did not see them on say 6 meters. Our standard, in 1977, was simple. SWR OK? Mic bite you? Neighbors complaining of TVI? If there was a lot of loss at the antenna who knew? Unless you had a failure.

2021年9月29日 · Winding about seven or eight turns of the RG-58 coax around a large ferrite clam shell solved the problem. I located the ferrite clam shell about 25 or 30 feet below the balun. The clam shell allowed me to add it onto the coax without having to disconnect anything or thread it through a toroid.
