2006年2月25日 · Nearly all alloys of aluminum can be spot welded. That said, you can't use a spot welder made to weld steel to spot weld aluminum. Aluminum needs much higher tip forces and much higher current. You can't spot weld 1/8" inch aluminum at all. That might be possible with projection welding which is related. Such machines cost as much as a house.

2010年5月26日 · The EP portion of the cycle will be as though you were welding reverse polarity, and 2/3 of the heat goes into the tungsten. However the gas ionization on this polarity cleans the metal of tenacious oxides, which is needed for aluminium. MIG runs EP anyway, and the electrode is consumable, so the polarity is already correct for aluminium welding.

Search for Spot Weld Gun - Amazon. They have been around for decades. The one we had is probably still hiding in the shop at the farm. You grab the end of the cable with the electrode holder. You pull the trigger to retract the carbon arc rod. Push the gun fingers against the top sheet to hold the sheets firmly against each other.
How do you take dents out of a round aluminum tank?
If you must use pressure, it should be water. Tricky with a polished aluminium tank, but one way with small dents is to drill and put in a self tapping screw, then gently pull the screw with a pair of pliers, till the dent comes out. Does leave you with problem of sealiing the hole though. richard

The quick setting guide for MIG (on the welding spool compartment) gives you the boilerplate settings for Migging aluminium.

2012年1月26日 · I think the moral of the story is emerging: the HF spot welders don't hold up. I have a Miller spot welder made on or before 1981 which still works perfectly. BTW, HF spot welder arms will fit in Miller/Dayton spot welders, and are enormously cheaper than stock Miller parts. 240V spot welders are much more useful than 120V.

2003年1月11日 · As far as welding... hmmm if is a REAL HIGH QUALITY cast then it may be weldable... the problem is that cast aluminum usually has a kinds of crud in it that make it an unfriendly task to take on. Your idea of preheating is right on though... anytime you need to weld aluminum on a large scale preheating is a good idea! Good luck!
