Loading your ceiling up with insulation is a good idea but too much of anything can be a bad thing. It is not a good idea for insulation to touch your roof. You want your roof to “breathe”. If you don’t allow for proper air flow moisture can get trapped between the insulation and your roof and cause mold or even rot.
